When the harvest season ends around November each year, there is less work to do around the farm. Many seasonal farmworkers who were called to help with the collection, storage, and delivery of crops are no longer receiving a paycheck. This can make the holidays a hard time of year for farmworkers and their families.
Presents from Proteus is an annual Christmas event put on by Proteus, Inc. in partnership with the Marine Toys for Tots that provides children and their families in the Des Moines metro with holiday gifts and food pantry items. Families have an opportunity to make or take home a craft, eat decorated sugar cookies, and share both their wish list and a photo with Santa Claus.

Donate Food Items
Spread holiday cheer with Presents from Proteus! By donating non-perishable food items, you can support economically disadvantaged families in Des Moines, IA. We distribute the collected items to families in need at the Presents from Proteus event. Your contribution ensures festive meals and smiles all around!

Items can be dropped off at the Proteus, Inc. office in Des Moines or at any of the drop box locations on the Des Moines University Campus in West Des Moines.
We partner with Toys for Tots to supply economically disadvantaged families with toys for the children in their families. Drop off new unwrapped toys for children of any age to one of the Toys for Tots locations.
Sometimes the toys we receive don’t always align perfectly with the ages of the children in our program. To ensure that every child receives a gift that suits their age and interests, we’re seeking volunteers to shop for toys that fill in these gaps.
